3 killed in road mishap
Three persons were killed in a road accident on Sunday near Bhalupali Chhack when a brick-laden truck coming from the opposite side hit their bike.
The deceased were identified as Andrus Papa, Adi Munda and Lukas Munda of Pitapali village under Sambalpur’s Ainthapali police station limits. The victims belonging to the Christian community had gone to purchase meat from the town to celebrate Christmas in their village.
Police sources said the trio were returning to their village after purchasing mutton from Sambalpur market. They were travelling on a motor cycle. They were seemingly in a hurry as they wanted to reach their village as soon as possible.
Near Bhalupali Chhack on the outskirts of the town, a brick-laden truck was coming from Jharsuguda. It hit the bike as the truck driver lost control over the vehicle. The accident was so severe that the motorcycle was completely damaged killing all three riders on the spot.
“We have registered a case and handed over the bodies to the relatives of the deceased after conducting autopsy at Burla. However, we could not arrest the truck driver who managed to flee from the spot soon after the accident,” said inspector in-charge of Ainthapali police station, P K Patnaik.
