Workshop showcases Sambalpur city development plan
The Sambalpur Development Authority (SDA) on Thursday organised a workshop to show the comprehensive development plan chalked out for Greater Sambalpur. It has been prepared for the people that is likely to be around 5.75 lakh by 2030.
The Gujarat Industrial and Technical Consultancy (GITCO) entrusted to prepare the plan for Sambalpur displayed it to the district level officials as well as to the locals.
Source said a satellite township on the outskirts of the city, development of all roads, flyovers and parking places, commercial centres, slum development and rehabilitation, infrastructure for small and medium scale industries, health and education, recreational centers, celebration ground, sports ground, botanical garden, extension of bus and truck terminus, development of Rengali township as socio-economic centre, development of Lapanga as a commercial centre, shopping centres, cultural centres, art gallery, environment complex, regional park, sewage disposal system and streamlining of major drains in the city have been proposed in the comprehensive development plan.
Presenting the plan, DG Pandyan of GITCO said Sambalpur, along with Hirakud, Burla Notified Area Council and 67 adjoining villages of Rengali, Dhankauda and Maneswar blocks have been included in the plan.
Ten out of the 67 villages have been identified as the central villages, which will support the population of the surrounding villages engaged in agricultural activities. The central villages will also provide agricultural inputs, seeds, grain storage depots, tractor, agricultural production facilities and marketing of grain facility, Pandyan added.
A multi nuclei concept has been adopted while preparing the comprehensive development plan. But the suggestions of the residents will be taken into consideration, he said.
This plan, once finalised, will be a guideline for the future development of the area, said SDA chairman Bijaya Kumar Mohanty.
