Sambalpur girl shoots her way to gold
Shooter Shriyanka Sadangi (17) has added another feather to her cap by winning the 10 metre air rifle women’s junior gold at the ISSF international junior competition in Germany on Friday evening. She scored 500.9 points. Amelie Perment of France and Nadine Ungerank of Austria won the silver and bronze respectively. This is her second international medal in junior shooting championship during the current year.
Shriyanka from Sambalpur had bagged silver in the 12th Asian shooting championship organized at Doha. Qatar in January 2012. She stays in Delhi with her parents, Sitanshu Sadangi, a defence officer and Sudha Sadangi.
With the two medals, she is the lone Odia girl to achieve such a distinction in shooting. “It was a proud moment for me. By winning gold, she has proved that Odia girls no longer lag behind,” Sudha Sadangi, mother of Shriyanka said on Saturday. She has presently in Sambalpur to meet her ailing mother-in-law. Sudha said her daughter is preparing for the Olympics and the days are not far away when she would bring glory to country by winning a Olympic medal.
Shriyanka has also won many medals in national and state championships during her school career. She had received gold medals in Haryana State Rifle Championship organized in New Delhi in August 2011. She finished third in champion of champions shooting competition in Pune during November 2011. She had also represented the country in the 50th ISSF World Shooting Championship 2010 at Munich. “I am quite happy with the performance of my daughter,” Sitanshu Sadangi said on Saturday.
