Rs 2 crore booty seized from ‘dacoit’
Police in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Saturday arrested the kingpin of inter-state gang of dacoits and recovered booty worth over Rs 2 crore including Rs 4.2 kg gold. Chhattisgarh police had recently arrested seven members of the gang involved in the looting of jewelry worth Rs 3 crore from a shop at Baramkela in Chhattisgarh, a senior police officer said.
Bargarh SP Anoop Krishna said Amit Kumar Dash alias Boss was arrested from a hide out at Kantabanji in Balangir district. He was involved in numerous dacoity cases in Sambalpur, Balangir, Sonepur, Bargarh and Nuapada district of Odisha and was also wanted in some major dacoity cases by Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. From his possession, Bargarh police recovered 4.2 kg refined gold ingots and gold ornaments, 5.7 kg silver ornaments, semiprecious stones weighing 432 gram, Rs 2.55 lakh, four pistols, 20 round live ammunitions, a car, two bikes, nine mobiles, LCD TV, a laptop, a music system, a Printer and scanner.
Police seized documents of 16 benami bank accounts in which he has stacked cash. Police already freezed all these accounts containing cash of around Rs 82 lakhs. Amit, 31, is a resident of Dudukasira village under Balangir sadar police station and is allegedly involved in 25 different cases in the three states. All the gang members, including the seven arrested in Chhattisgarh and at least three others who are still at large are natives of western Odisha.
