NCDS team in Sambalpur to study leakage in Hirakud dam
A four-member team of the National Committee on Dam Safety (NCDS) arrived here to study the leakage in the powerhouse gallery of Hirakud dam in Odisha.
According to sources, the team comprising Er AD Mohile, chairman, NCDS, member Suresh Chandra, PK Mohanty, chief engineer, Odisha Dam Safety, and deputy director Er AK Das, will visit the dam site at Burla today to study the leakage point.
The team would then recommend the state government to take necessary steps in accordance with its report.
Prior to the visit of the NCDS team, a five-member team of the Odisha Dam Safety had visited the dam on June 4 to study the leakage in the unit 6 and 7 of the powerhouse gallery that were built in 1956 and 1989-90 respectively.
The team, later in its report to the state government had claimed that the leakage will pose no threat to the main dam.
It may be recalled the leakage was detected during the annual supervision in March this year.
Later, the dam authorities informed the matter to the state government to take adequate steps.
