Rs 50 lakhs postal savings ‘swindled’ in Kalahandi post office
Swindling of postal savings to a tune of over Rs 50 lakhs have been alleged in western Odisha’s Kalahandi district headquarters town of Bhawanipatna.
A victim was about to withdraw Rs 3 lakh from his postal savings for his daugther’s wedding when the matter came to fore. To his utter chagrin, he found his savings of around Rs 4 lakh not entered into the post office ledger nor fed to the computer while the figures only surface in the pass book.
Some other victims have amazingly stumbled upon distorted figure of savings amount in the ledger and pass books.
Such a fraudulent practice has been alleged at the Bhawanipatna Stadium branch Sub Post Office while the fleeing postal official has been identified as Aditya Majhi.
