Rivals shoot goon in Sambalpur
SAMBALPUR: A murder convict, Dinabandhu Jena, was critically injured here on Thursday night when he was shot at by one Rajesh Sahu in what police claimed as gang rivalry.
Dinabandhu has been admitted to VSS Medical College Hospital with a bullet still stuck in his leg. This is the second firing incident in just a fortnight under the same Ainthapali police station area.
Dinabandhu was convicted in the BJD leader Subash Dikhit murder case and at present out on high court bail.
The police registered a case in Thursday’s incident but failed to arrest the assailants.
According to the police, Dinabandhu was going towards Ainthapali on a motorcycle. About 7.45 pm, Rajesh along with his companion came with another bike and opened fired at Jena. After missing the first one, Rajesh shot another at Dinabandhu, who waved his leg in order to save himself. However, the bullet hit his leg. Before the police rushed to the spot, Rajesh had disappeared.
“We are trying to arrest Rajesh and his companion. A case has been registered against Rajesh and other accomplice,” Ainthapali police station inspector P K Rout said.
According to him, both Rajesh and Dinabandhu are dreaded criminals, having long records. “We had also booked them under the National Security Act,” Rout added.
Basing on Dinabandhu’s statement, inspector Rout said Rajesh intended to eliminate his rival.
