PCR-based police system for Sambalpur in the offing
Sambalpur town will soon have Police Control Room (PCR) based police system and PCR vans and motorcycles will patrol the town. Sambalpur SP Prateek Mohanty said besides increasing the visibility of the police, it will also help contain crime. The motorcycles will be on the move and will reach the spot of criminal act or accident in no time and act immediately to provide relief. The increased presence of police will also boost sense of security among the people and bring them closer to the police, he added.
Earlier, the PCR vans were under control of police stations and problem of jurisdiction haunted them in their operations leaving them helpless at times. But now the vans will work in tandem with each other with no barrier of jurisdiction and will be on the roads round-the-clock. In addition to the PCR vans, eight PCR bikes will also be deployed to facilitate access to the areas where it is difficult for vans to reach. This apart, eight police assistance booths will be set up and spots will soon be identified for the purpose to ensure that it is made operational at the earliest. On receiving information, the personnel at the assistance booth will co-ordinate with the PCR vans and inform the respective police stations and reach out to victims as soon as possible.
With a large number of youths taking to Habit Forming Drugs (HFDs), there has been a rise in incidence of chain snatching. The move will restore confidence among the fitness freaks who were sulking about not being able to go for a walk in evening and early morning. The SP said a joint squad with the Drug Inspector will be formed and an all out effort will be made to check illegal sale of HFDs.
He also stressed on one-way traffic and sought cooperation of the people. He said the people will be sensitised and awareness campaigns will be launched before it is introduced.
Mohanty added that continuous efforts are being made to arrest and put criminals behind the bars to ensure that people feel secured and safe. He said special drive has been launched to execute non-bailable warrants pending against criminals and added that such drives would continue.
